Our Mission Statement
In January 2024, all staff shared what this school means to them and their values were captured in our mission statement:
“Students feel encouraged to learn from their mistakes, express their views and to fulfil their potential. The importance of education is respected through an ambitious curriculum that is inclusive, broad, balanced and delivered by inspirational teachers. The school adapts to students’ needs through pathways which enable all to succeed. Lessons are highly engaging and differentiated, to allow students to make excellent progress at all times. Whilst students are always challenged to do their best, they feel fully supported by passionate staff who consistently provide meaningful feedback, praise and time for self-reflection. Students seize a wide range of opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, including rich extra-curricular experiences, leading them to become healthy, creative, trusted and responsible team players. Students have outstanding literacy skills to communicate effectively and they embrace the Welsh language. They also have exemplary numeracy and digital skills, and demonstrate their resilience by applying their knowledge to solve problems effectively. Students are ambitious, capable and confident to leave Abersychan School, with the transferable skills and qualifications required to be successful in life and work.
At Abersychan School, students receive exceptional wellbeing and academic support from positive role models. All stakeholders are happy and have a strong sense of belonging within the school community. The environment is safe and warm; students are cared for and are able to thrive. They develop emotional intelligence and empathy skills, which enables them to show compassion for others’ wellbeing. Staff provide timely and impactful interventions for those students requiring additional support, where barriers to learning are removed. They build students’ self-efficacy so they become secure in their own capabilities and self-worth. Students views are valued, which fosters close relationships amongst all stakeholders, based on trust and mutual respect. Students understand the impact of their actions, develop strong moral values, engage with their community and become valuable members of society. They are educated about their culture, heritage, Wales and the world. Students develop the independence required to express themselves, to be authentic and to be creative contributors in the 21st century. They conscientiously welcome the prospect of life-long learning in an ever-changing world. Students confidently identify and grasp opportunities which lead to fulfilling and successful lives during, and beyond their time at school. Students from Abersychan School have the tools to follow their dreams and become the best version of themselves.”
