We will remember them
The school marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War with its own remembrance service on Friday 9 November. The whole school gathered for the assembly which was led by the Rev J Funnell and included contributions from Josh Parr (Head Boy) and Laura Hayward Price(Head Girl). The last post was played superbly well by Eleri Miles (Year 10). During the assembly Captain James from the British Legion reminded us all of the reasons why we remember.
The behaviour and respect shown by all pupils was outstanding and was commented upon by members of the British Legion and other invited guests. The generosity and community spirit of the school was demonstrated again with over £300 raised towards the poppy appeal.
On Remembrance Sunday Josh Parr (Head Boy) and Laura Hayward Price (Head Girl) accompanied Mr Collins to the Bleanavon Remembrance Service. Josh introduced the service by reading “The Exhortation” and Laura concluded the service by reading “The Kohima Epitaph”. Mr Collins also contributed by reading the poem “The Aftermath”. Ethan Hassell (Deputy Head Boy) and Maddison Brown (Deputy Head Girl) accompanied Mr Collins and Mr Mutlow to the Pontypool Remembrance Service. At both services a wreath was laid on behalf of the school in memory of all those who have lost their lives serving our country.
