Ysgol Abersychan School

School of Rock (Wednesday 30th January 2019)

On Wednesday 30th January, Abersychan showcased its first musical - School of Rock - at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran.

School of Rock follows the story of Dewey, a wannabe rock star kicked out of his own band, whose dream is to compete in Battle of the Bands. There’s just one problem … his new band is made up of school children whose parents and teachers would NOT be happy if they found out that the children were spending their lessons learning rock history and practising for the prestigious rock competition.

The cast was made up of 65 pupils from Year 7-10 and every pupil involved conducted themselves in a professional manner from rehearsals always through to the final show. Lines were learnt, rehearsals were attended regularly, costumes were put together and the show was event ‘run’ by pupils (backstage and in the lighting/sound box).

The show was a huge success and the Performing Arts department would like to say huge thank-you to the Governors, Staff and Senior Leadership Team of Abersychan School for their support in the run up to the event. Also to the Parents and Guardians of all of the students involved and a special thanks to the Congress Theatre for allowing us to use their fantastic facility.

Please find attached a copy of the programme which includes cast interviews and pictures of the show and also below is a link for some more pictures from the show.
