USA Trip (WC 02nd July 2018)

On Sunday 1st July, 50 Year 11 pupils travelled to the USA in the company of Mr Mutlow, Mrs Gravell, Mrs Watkins, Miss Jones and Mr Jones. The first City on the itinerary was New York. The group visited the 9/11 memorial, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Wall Street, Central Park and climbed to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Centre! We also sailed on the Statten Island Ferry to the the Statue of Liberty and went to the ‘School of Rock’ Broadway show! We sang Beatles songs at the John Lennon Memorial garden and ate at the Hard Rock Café!

After 3 incredible nights, we travelled on to Philadelphia where we visited the ‘Rocky’ steps and the Eastern State Penitentiary. This was where Al Capone was imprisoned for carrying an unlicensed weapon. The visit was fantastic, even if it was quite scary at times! We then continued our journey to Washington.

Our first night in Washington was on 4th July (Independence Day) where we were treated to a spectacular firework display at the Washington Monument. This was a massive highlight of the trip and felt like a real bucket list moment!

Whilst in Washington we also visited the Capital Building, Congress Library, Lincoln Memorial, Museum of Natural History and Arlington National Cemetery where we saw the grave of John F. Kennedy. Whilst at the Lincoln Memorial we also stood on the spot where Martin Luther King gave his famous ‘I have a dream’ speech which left the hairs standing on the back of the neck. This was a fantastic, once in a lifetime experience for all pupils involved who were incredible throughout!
