Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

On Thursday, 13th March, a number of brass students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff joined us for an inspirational musical workshop under the baton of Mr Keith Price.  Mr Price works at the college as the head of brass and percussion studies.

We were taken on a journey through Tudor times, and learnt about the lives of great Tudor characters, such as Sir Walter Raleigh.  The students in the band also demonstrated the characteristics of every brass instrument as they were asked to play key motifs from separate pieces.  Mr Price also taught us some interesting dance moves whilst listening to a suite of Balkan Dances.

Several pupils have already enquired about beginning music lessons in school following this workshop.  There are currently 70 pupils attending extra music lessons during the school week; As a Department, we offer lessons in the following instruments: brass, woodwind, string (violin, viola, cello), guitar, piano, vocal and percussion.  All pupils are welcome to attend these lessons and only have to speak with a member of staff in the department to express an interest.
