Andorra Ski Report (17th February 2018)

On Saturday 17th February we left Abersychan School on a ski trip to Andorra. The bus was full of excited pupils, many of which had never been skiing before. The journey was long and tiring however we were entertained by plenty of DVDs, games, singing and even a few hours’ sleep. Around midday the following day we arrived at our hotel, way ahead of the scheduled time of arrival. We unloaded the bus and had plenty of time to explore the town of Encamp and get fitted for skis in preparation for the first day on the slopes.

Our first day of skiing dawned, all the pupil were up early and down for breakfast by 7:30am. Every day we would call a kit checklist to ensure everyone had the essentials for the mountain, including the most important Lift Pass (Ethan Davies ?!?). Our journey each morning would start with a very short bus trip to the gondola to meet the ski instructors to begin the day of skiing. Time flew by all morning with lots of snow ploughs, pupils cheating the line and a few wipe outs. Before we knew it we’d be meeting up again for a hot buffet lunch at 1pm. After lunch we then had a whole afternoon skiing around the huge resort. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the skiing, with plenty of laughs and falls! Everyone had their own story to tell staff about their fab techniques, spectacular falls and amazing jumps!

Every evening we had an evening of activities and entertainment planned. We experienced a night bowling in the local town, eating in a pizzeria, swimming and a quiz night at the hotel. On our final night we were lucky enough to have the ski instructors visit the hotel to say a final farewell and award certificates for all our pupils.

We were all a bit disappointed to leave and begin the journey home, nevertheless looking forward to a good night’s sleep in our own beds. Again we made really good time on the journey and arrived back to Abersychan just under 17 hours later on the Saturday.

It was a very successful trip and the pupils were an absolute pleasure to take. We are already looking forward to doing it all over again in the French alps next year.
